The Ministry of Youth Development and Empowerment has called on young people across the country to celebrate Valentine’s Day responsibly, with a focus on respect, discipline, and healthy choices.
In a press release issued in Accra on Thursday, February 13, 2026, the Hon. Minister for Youth Development and Empowerment extended warm wishes to the youth, describing Valentine’s Day as a time to reflect on love, friendship, and togetherness. He however cautioned against practices that could endanger their health and future.
The Minister expressed concern over the rising cases of drug and substance abuse, teenage pregnancies, and HIV infections among the youth, noting that these challenges pose serious threats to education, wellbeing, and national development. He stressed the need for collective action to safeguard the future of young people.
“Valentine’s Day should be a celebration of love that builds, not destroys. I urge our youth to cherish themselves, respect their bodies, and commit to choices that secure their future,” the statement read.
The Minister further encouraged young people to avoid offering sex as a gift on Valentine’s Day, urging instead that they exchange tokens such as chocolate to symbolize affection. He emphasized that the day should be marked free of substance abuse, including alcohol.
The Ministry also appealed to parents, guardians, educators, and community leaders to support the youth in making positive decisions, highlighting their critical role in shaping values and guiding young people through increasing social pressures.
The statement concluded with a call for unity in building a disciplined generation ready to lead Ghana into greatness.
