“We let you down — And we’re sorry”: NPP’s general secretary vows redemption and rebirth

General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Frimpong Kodua, has issued a heartfelt apology to Ghanaians for the shortcomings experienced during the party’s time in office, vowing not to repeat the same mistakes if given another chance to govern.

Speaking on Channel One TV on Wednesday, 19 June, Mr Kodua acknowledged both the accomplishments and the failings of the NPP’s administration, which ended following defeat in the 2024 general elections.

“As a political party, certainly we did our best, but we couldn’t have gotten everything right,” he admitted. “And I have always said that on behalf of our then government, our political party, certain things that we could not do right, we apologise for it.”

Mr Kodua stressed that the NPP was fully aware of the areas where it underperformed and accepted responsibility. He added that the party had entered a period of introspection and reform since leaving office, using the time to assess its governance and strategize for a more effective return.

“As a party, we are always ready to learn and make sure that when we come back to power, the good things that we did, we will build on. And those mistakes that we made — we will not repeat those mistakes,” he pledged.

The NPP had served two terms before its loss in the last election and is now determined to rebuild public trust and position itself as a stronger force in Ghana’s political future.
