Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has officially launched the 150th anniversary celebrations of Mfantsipim School, hailing the institution as a cornerstone in shaping Ghana’s intellectual and leadership heritage.
Addressing a packed gathering, the Vice President underscored the school’s enduring legacy of excellence, discipline, and character formation. She noted that generations of students who have passed through Mfantsipim have made significant contributions to national development, with its influence extending across families and communities.
Reflecting on the school’s traditions, she referenced the longstanding and respectful rivalry between Mfantsipim and Adisadel College, describing it as a healthy engagement that exemplifies values of intellectual discourse and mutual respect — qualities she said should underpin national dialogue.
Opoku-Agyemang emphasized that Mfantsipim’s legacy, rooted in the vision of the Methodist Church Ghana, represents not only longevity but also the transformative role of education in strengthening the nation’s foundations. She stressed the need to expand access to education without compromising quality, while aligning learning with innovation, critical thinking, and national development priorities.
On the occasion, Minister for Education Haruna Iddrisu announced government support for the education of persons with disabilities, alongside renewed efforts to complete projects at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.
The Vice President urged current students to uphold the institution’s values of integrity, discipline, and service, while commending alumni and stakeholders for their sustained commitment to the school’s advancement. She congratulated the Mfantsipim community on reaching this historic milestone and expressed confidence in its continued impact for generations to come.
