The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection has intensified its efforts to safeguard and empower survivors of domestic abuse, with renewed support for Ms. Harriet Amuzu, who was rescued last year following reports of severe abuse.
The Ministry’s swift intervention at the time led to her rescue and the initiation of legal proceedings, which remain ongoing in court. Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Hon. Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, personally engaged Ms. Amuzu during the process, reaffirming government’s commitment to her safety, recovery, and pursuit of justice.
Beyond the immediate rescue, the Ministry has continued to provide comprehensive assistance to aid her recovery and reintegration. This includes psychosocial care, guidance, and targeted livelihood support designed to help her regain independence and rebuild her life.
Speaking on the intervention, Dr. Lartey emphasized the importance of sustained support for survivors. “Our responsibility does not end at rescue. We are committed to walking with survivors through their recovery journey, ensuring they are safe, supported and empowered to rebuild their lives,” she stated.
The case underscores the Ministry’s broader commitment to protecting vulnerable individuals and ensuring accountability in cases of gender-based violence, while highlighting the government’s resolve to strengthen systems of care and justice for survivors.
