Vice President Celebrates Excellence at Independence Day Awards

Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang joined schoolchildren from across the country at the President’s Independence Day Awards ceremony, held under the theme “Building Prosperity, Restoring Hope.”

The event honoured 52 outstanding students drawn from all 16 regions of Ghana, representing both public and private institutions, including learners with visual and hearing impairments. Their discipline, resilience, and commitment to excellence were celebrated as embodying the highest ideals of Ghana’s education system.

In her address, the Vice President emphasized that while national prosperity depends on sound policies and robust infrastructure, it is ultimately sustained by the character, integrity, and civic responsibility of citizens—particularly the youth. She urged the awardees to remain steadfast in their pursuits, uphold integrity, respect authority, and serve as role models within their communities.

Government, she noted, remains resolute in advancing inclusive, equitable, and quality education that equips every Ghanaian child with the knowledge, skills, and values necessary to thrive. “The Ghana we aspire to build will be shaped by a generation that embodies excellence, integrity, and leadership. With such promise on display, the future of our nation is assured,” she stated.

The ceremony reaffirmed the country’s commitment to nurturing young leaders who will drive Ghana’s prosperity and uphold its values of unity, resilience, and hope.
