The Minority Leader in Parliament, Honourable Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has unreservedly withdrawn allegations he made against the Government and the Minister for the Interior, Honourable Mubarak Mohammed Muntaka, regarding alleged illegal recruitment into the security services.
It will be recalled that during the commencement of sitting on Tuesday, 3rd March 2026, the Interior Minister invoked Standing Order 67 (1u) and Standing Order 31, seeking to refer the Minority Leader to the Privileges Committee to substantiate his claims. Afenyo-Markin had alleged that the recruitment process was illegal and imposed undue financial burdens on applicants through the introduction of an online application system.
However, following his retraction and formal apology, the Interior Minister accepted his withdrawal. Consequently, the First Deputy Speaker announced that the referral to the Committee on Privileges and Immunities had been withdrawn.
The development brings closure to the matter, reinforcing parliamentary procedures that ensure accountability while also allowing for reconciliation when allegations are retracted.
