A group calling itself Traders Advocacy Group Ghana has expressed worry over the silence of the Vice President Dr Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia on the recent free fall of the cedi.
According to the group, the cedi, in less than a quarter of the year, has depreciated drastically close to 50%.
“Now a business man needs as much as ¢760,000 to get a $100,000 for business, but not too long ago a business man needed ¢640,000 for $100,000,” the group bemoaned.
However, the group was worried over the silence of the Vice President, as far as the depreciating cedi is concerned.
TAGG said they expected to hear Mr Bawumia address the current free fall of the cedi.
In an interview on Accra FM’s ‘Ghana Yensom’ morning show on Wednesday 9 March 2022, president of TAGG, Mr David Amoateng poured out his concerns.
He disclosed that every businessman in the country is disquieted about the abysmal devaluation of the cedi under President Akufo Addo’s administration.
Mr David Amoateng urged the Vice President, who is also the head of economic management team to come out with an explanation on the alarming depreciating of the cedi.
“As business people, we need some answers on the exchange rate,” he added.
He also admitted that the country exchange rate is affecting every business man in the country”.
