Road Crashes, Deaths Decline in March — NRSA

Ghana recorded a slight reduction in road crashes and fatalities in March 2026, according to provisional figures released by the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA), signaling a modest gain in road safety outcomes.

The Authority disclosed that reported crash incidents dropped to 1,195 in March 2026, compared to 1,218 during the same month in 2025.

Fatalities saw a sharper decline, falling from 254 to 229, while pedestrian knockdowns eased marginally from 202 to 199.

Officials attributed the improvement to intensified public sensitization campaigns rolled out ahead of and during the Easter festivities.

“We cannot afford to wait until Easter or Christmas before intensifying road safety education. Statistics show that when we engage the public proactively, lives are spared,” Director-General Abraham Amaliba emphasized.

Despite the progress, the NRSA cautioned that road traffic crashes remain a pressing national concern, continuing to inflict deaths, injuries, and economic costs.

The Authority urged sustained investment in public education, calling on government, development partners, and corporate Ghana to back nationwide initiatives that encourage safer road practices.

It further announced plans to broaden outreach to schools, workplaces, and transport centers, while harnessing digital and community-based platforms to reach larger audiences.
