CSA Warns Against Fraudulent Online Business Impersonation Schemes

The Cyber Security Authority (CSA) has issued a public alert warning of a growing trend of fraudsters impersonating legitimate businesses online, leading to significant financial losses for unsuspecting victims.

According to the Authority, between January 1 and April 26, 2026, fifty-four cases of fraudulent online business impersonation were reported, resulting in losses amounting to GHS 266,195. The schemes typically involve fake listings on search engines and map services, where victims are tricked into engaging with fraudsters posing as authentic service providers.

The CSA explained that victims are often directed to complete online forms requesting sensitive details such as phone numbers, mobile money PINs, and transaction amounts. These details are then exploited to carry out unauthorized transactions.

In its advisory, the Authority urged the public to verify business contact details through official websites or trusted sources before making payments or sharing personal information. It also cautioned against disclosing sensitive credentials such as mobile money PINs, one-time passwords (OTPs), or banking details to unverified contacts.

The CSA encouraged citizens to report suspicious listings or incidents promptly through its 24-hour Cybersecurity/Cybercrime Incident Reporting Points of Contact, which include call or text via 292, WhatsApp on 0501603111, and email at report@csa.gov.gh.

Officials reiterated the Authority’s commitment to safeguarding the public against cyber fraud and emphasized the importance of vigilance in online transactions.
