The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MoGCSP), through its Domestic Violence Secretariat, has convened a National Stakeholders’ Meeting to chart coordinated strategies for addressing Domestic, Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (D/SGBV) in Ghana.
The engagement brought together representatives from government agencies, non-governmental organisations, civil society, and other institutions central to preventing violence, protecting survivors, and strengthening national response mechanisms. The meeting forms part of the Ministry’s broader push to promote multi-sectoral collaboration and enhance collective action against D/SGBV.
In her welcome address, Madam Malonin Asibi, Head of the Domestic Violence Secretariat, underscored the importance of adopting a survivor-centred approach in all interventions. She stressed the need to prioritise the safety, dignity, and rights of survivors in policy and practice.
Presentations were delivered by the Domestic Violence Secretariat, the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Ghana Police Service, and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA). These focused on institutional mandates, ongoing interventions, achievements, and persistent challenges in preventing and responding to D/SGBV.
Regional Directors of Gender, state agencies, and Civil Society Organisations also shared updates on community-level interventions. While some reported steady progress, others highlighted funding constraints and limited human resources as barriers to effective service delivery.
Plenary discussions emphasized the need for strengthened coordination, improved information sharing, and sustained collaboration to advance survivor-centred, responsive, and effective interventions nationwide.
The meeting reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to tackling Domestic, Sexual and Gender-Based Violence through collective action and stronger institutional partnerships.
