Remaining 6 Helicopter Crash Victims Laid To Rest

The last six individuals who tragically lost their lives in the August 6 helicopter accident were laid to rest on Friday, August 15, 2025.

The burial ceremony was held at the Military Cemetery in Tse Addo, located in Accra. The solemn event drew attendance from top government officials, senior military personnel, grieving families, and sympathizers from all corners of the nation.

Prior to the burial, a multi-faith memorial service was conducted at Black Star Square to honour the fallen patriots. Families and loved ones paid tribute by laying wreaths in remembrance of the six victims.

The atmosphere was heavy with sorrow as mourners wept openly during the final rites, marking a moment of deep national mourning.

Those interred included Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Samuel Aboagye, NDC Vice Chairman Dr. Samuel Sarpong, Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.

President John Mahama earlier paid homage to the deceased and announced the establishment of a Support Fund to assist the children left behind by the victims.

He also revealed that the Ghana Armed Forces personnel who perished in the crash would be honoured with posthumous promotions in recognition of their service.

The President stated that the Chief of Defence Staff would oversee the formal presentation of the promotion insignias to the families of the fallen officers.

As part of the honours, Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala was elevated to Wing Commander, Flying Officer Manaen Twum Ampadu to Flight Lieutenant, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah to Flight Sergeant.

President Mahama stressed that these promotions are not merely ceremonial but reflect the true value of the officers’ contributions to the nation. He affirmed that the entitlements due to their families would be adjusted to reflect the new ranks.

Two other victims ,Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, and Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator, Alhaji Limuna Muniru Mohammed were laid to rest earlier on August 10.
