The Inspector-General of Police’s Special Operations Team (SOT), working in collaboration with the Ashanti Regional Police Command, has announced a major breakthrough in the fight against organised crime following a series of intelligence-led operations across the region.
The operations, conducted between 8th and 17th June 2026, targeted criminal networks involved in human trafficking, sexual exploitation, narcotics trafficking, and unlawful possession of firearms. Coordinated raids were carried out in Asafo, Kenyase Aframa, Asokwa, Buokrom, Krofrom, Atonsu-Bokuro, Asawase, and Old Tafo Ahenbronum.
According to the Police, a total of 186 suspects were arrested, comprising 86 Ghanaian nationals, 96 Nigerian nationals, and 4 Togolese nationals. A significant breakthrough occurred on 9th June at Kenyase Aframa, where the arrest of Gladys Ibrahim, alias “Mama Gee”, and other accomplices exposed links to a transnational criminal network.
The operation also led to the rescue of several persons believed to be victims of exploitation, including minors who were placed under protective care in line with child protection protocols. Foreign nationals identified as victims are being processed in collaboration with the Ghana Immigration Service for immigration and repatriation procedures.
The Police commended the professionalism of the Special Operations Team and the Ashanti Regional Command, noting that investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend other members of the criminal network.
“The Ghana Police Service remains resolute in its commitment to intelligence-led policing and will continue sustained operations to combat organised crime and ensure the safety and security of all persons in the country,” the statement affirmed.
The press release was signed by Deputy Superintendent of Police Godwin Ahianyo, Head of the Public Affairs Unit in Ashanti.
