The Ghana Police Service has issued a public notice clarifying the approved uniforms for private security operators across the country, warning that any attire resembling those of state security agencies will be deemed unauthorized.
According to the directive, released by the Police Headquarters in Accra, the move is in line with Regulation 12 of the Police Service (Private Security Organizations) Regulations, 1992 (LI.1571). The notice outlines four approved uniform combinations for private security employees:
- White long or short-sleeved shirt with ash khaki trousers featuring white stripes.
- Cream shirt with brown khaki trousers and cream stripes.
- Mauve shirt with maroon trousers and mauve stripes.
- Yellow shirt with ash/grey reflectors paired with brown khaki trousers, reserved exclusively for personnel in the mining and oil sectors.
The Police Service stressed that any other uniform design or colour combination resembling those of the military, police, or other state security agencies is prohibited.
“All private security operators are required to comply strictly with the approved specifications, and in-house security should desist from wearing uniforms that resemble those of state security agencies,” the statement read.
The directive further cautioned that offenders will face sanctions as prescribed by law. The public has also been encouraged to report suspected violations to the appropriate authorities.
The announcement, signed by the Director-General of Private Security Organizations, is part of ongoing efforts to regulate the private security industry and prevent confusion between state security personnel and private guards.
