Police Intervene To Restore Order At Tamale Technical University

The Northern Regional Police Command has confirmed that calm has been restored at the Tamale Technical University following an unlawful demonstration by students on Tuesday, 16th September.

The demonstration, which drew over 500 students to the administration block, was sparked by growing dissatisfaction with the leadership of the Students Representative Council (SRC). Protesters demanded the immediate removal of the SRC President and other executives, accusing them of mismanagement and failing to represent student interests.

According to a statement issued by the Public Affairs Unit of the Regional Police Headquarters, the situation escalated when students began throwing stones and damaging school property. Officers were dispatched promptly after receiving a report from Superintendent Richard Lantei Dzakpasu, head of the university’s Police Post.

“The police acted swiftly to contain the unrest and prevent further destruction,” said Chief Inspector Luckman Niendow Alhassan, Regional Public Relations Officer. “Our presence helped to de-escalate tensions and restore calm.”

No injuries were reported, although several windows and fixtures were damaged during the incident. Authorities have since launched an investigation into the protest and the grievances raised by the student body.

University officials have yet to issue a formal response, but sources indicate that emergency meetings are underway to address the concerns and prevent future disruptions.

The Northern Regional Police Command has assured the public of its continued commitment to maintaining peace and order on campus and across the region.
