Police Arrest 24 Suspects in Major Ashanti Region Operation

The Ghana Police Service has announced the arrest of 24 suspects following a major intelligence‑led operation conducted across several communities in the Ashanti Region.

The operation, carried out by the Inspector‑General of Police (IGP) Special Operations Team in collaboration with the Ashanti Regional Police Command, targeted suspected drug peddlers and criminal networks in areas including Kodie, Apagya, Dechemso, Old Tafo Ahenbronum, Ahodwo, and Abofour.

According to the Police, the suspects — comprising 21 males and three females — were apprehended with a range of exhibits. Items retrieved included unregistered vehicles, a pump‑action gun with live cartridges, narcotic substances, processing materials, and cash suspected to be proceeds from drug sales. Other items seized included laptops, television sets, and locally made consumables believed to be laced with narcotics.

The suspects, among them Richmond Okyere, 49, who was found with a pump‑action gun, and several others aged between 17 and 62, are currently in custody assisting with investigations. Police officials confirmed that those found culpable will be prosecuted.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Godwin Ahianyo, Head of the Public Affairs Unit in the Ashanti Region, emphasized that the operation forms part of sustained intelligence‑driven efforts to clamp down on drug‑related offences, violent crime, and other forms of criminality. He urged the public to support law enforcement by providing credible information through designated emergency channels.

The Ghana Police Service reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring public safety and security, noting that such operations are critical to dismantling criminal networks and restoring confidence in affected communities.
