AU Condemns Coordinated Terrorist Attacks in Mali, Reaffirms Support for Peace Efforts

The African Union Commission has strongly condemned the coordinated terrorist attacks that struck several localities across northern, central, and southern Mali on July 4, 2026.

In a statement issued from Addis Ababa, Chairperson H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf extended condolences to the families of victims and expressed deep sympathy to all those affected. He reiterated the AU’s full solidarity with the Government and people of Mali during what he described as a difficult time.

“These attacks are a stark reminder that terrorism and violent extremism continue to pose a serious threat to Mali, the Sahel and the African continent as a whole,” the Chairperson noted, stressing the urgent need to strengthen collective efforts to advance peace, security, and stability.

The AU emphasized that such efforts must be carried out in full respect of international humanitarian law, with constant attention to the protection of civilians. The statement reaffirmed the Union’s unwavering commitment to supporting Malian authorities, as well as regional and continental initiatives aimed at combating terrorism and promoting lasting peace in the Sahel.

The Commission underscored that coordinated responses remain essential to countering extremist violence and safeguarding stability across the region.
