Parliament Pays Tribute to Late Ayawaso East MP, Hon. Naser Toure Mahama

The Parliament of Ghana has paid solemn tribute to the late Member of Parliament for Ayawaso East Constituency, Hon. Naser Toure Mahama, who passed away on 4 January 2026, just days after commencing his fourth term in the House.

The tribute, read by the First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Hon. Bernard Ahiafor, described Hon. Naser as a “cherished colleague, a dedicated public servant, and a true gentleman of the House,” whose calm dignity and humility left an indelible mark on Ghana’s legislature.

Parliamentary Career

Hon. Naser Toure Mahama first entered Parliament on 7 January 2013 on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). He won the Ayawaso East seat in four consecutive elections—2012, 2016, 2020, and 2024—serving in the 6th, 7th, and 8th Parliaments before beginning his fourth term in January 2025.

Over 13 years, he rose from a freshman legislator to a seasoned parliamentarian, representing one of Accra’s most vibrant constituencies with distinction.

Committee Work

Parliament noted his diligence as a “Committee man,” serving on the Committees on Energy, Roads and Transportation, House, and Private Members Bills and Motions. He was Vice Chairperson of the Mines and Energy Committee, where his expertise as CEO of Aminaser Oil Co. Ltd made him a vital voice in petroleum regulation and licensing.

Known for meticulous preparation, Hon. Naser’s contributions often focused on value-for-money audits and ensuring government contracts served the taxpayer. His colleagues recalled that he listened more than he spoke, but when he did, his words carried weight.

Advocacy for Constituents

On the floor of Parliament, Hon. Naser used questions to press for infrastructure and health improvements in Ayawaso East. He raised issues such as drainage works in Nima and Mamobi, the upgrading of the Nima Government Clinic, and the commencement of the Ayawaso East District Hospital under the “Agenda 111” project. Just last month, on 9 December 2025, he moved a motion for the approval of annual estimates for the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition.

He was also a strong advocate for youth empowerment, Zongo communities, and marginalized groups.

Personal Qualities

Hon. Naser was remembered as humble, honest, punctual, and supportive. He was often among the first MPs in the Chamber, approachable to colleagues, staff, and constituents alike. He mentored younger MPs, offered quiet counsel, and was generous without seeking recognition.

As an active member of the Muslim Caucus of Parliament, he contributed to fostering dialogue and moderation within the House.

A Lasting Legacy

“In Hon. Naser Toure Mahama, Ghana has lost a rising star of its parliamentary democracy—a man whose promise was cut short but whose example shines on,” the tribute stated. “He demonstrated that effective politics is not about the volume of one’s voice but the quality of one’s character and the depth of one’s commitment.”

Parliament extended its deepest condolences to his family, constituents, and the nation, affirming that while the Hansard will forever capture his words, his essence will remain in the hearts of colleagues and citizens.
