In a heartfelt gesture of solidarity, the Parliament of Ghana has donated GH₵100,000 to aid in the medical treatment of victims affected by the recent stampede at the El-Wak Sports Stadium.

The donation was announced during a visit to the 37 Military Hospital, where several victims are currently receiving care. The Rt Hon Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, led a delegation of parliamentary leadership to personally extend support and sympathies to the injured and their families.

Speaking during the visit, Speaker Bagbin described the donation as a token of Parliament’s compassion and a reaffirmation of its commitment to the welfare of citizens. “This contribution is not just financial—it is a symbol of our shared grief and our responsibility to stand with those who have suffered,” he stated.

The parliamentary delegation interacted with medical staff and victims, commending the hospital’s efforts in responding swiftly to the emergency. The Speaker also assured the public that Parliament would continue to monitor the situation and explore further avenues of support.

The El-Wak tragedy, which occurred during a crowded public event, has sparked national concern and calls for improved crowd management and safety protocols at public venues. Parliament’s intervention is seen as a significant step in addressing the immediate needs of those affected while highlighting the importance of institutional empathy in times of crisis.
