Otto Addo Stays Positive as Black Stars Eye World Cup Spot Despite Chad Slip

Ghana’s national team coach, Otto Addo, remains hopeful about the Black Stars’ chances of securing a spot in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, even after a disappointing result in their latest match.

The Black Stars unexpectedly dropped points in their clash with Chad, ending in a draw. Despite the setback, Ghana still tops Group I with 16 points. Comoros trails closely with 15 points, followed by Madagascar with 13, Mali with 12, the Central African Republic with 5, and Chad at the bottom with just 1 point.

Otto Addo expressed that the squad has reflected on their performance and is determined to bounce back in their upcoming fixture against Mali.

“The entire team felt very disappointed after the draw against Chad because there were high expectations for us to win. We have analyzed the game very well and hope we have learnt from this. Surely it is easy to play at home with our spectators supporting us and players giving their maximum best.”

“I expect something different from the players this time around, and I hope we learnt from our mistake against Chad. The good thing is we still have it in our own hands and we have to keep the pace high. It will be very difficult against Mali who are in good shape,”He added

When questioned about his position as head coach should the Mali match not go in Ghana’s favor, Addo dismissed concerns, emphasizing that his record with the team isn’t the issue. He expressed confidence that the team would secure a win to silence any doubts.

As they prepare for the crucial game, the Black Stars will be missing Sulemana Ibrahim due to injury and Elisha Owusu who is serving a suspension.

Kickoff for the match against Mali is scheduled for 19:00 GMT on Monday.
