The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced that all its presidential hopefuls will append their signatures to a peace accord on Thursday, January 22, in a bid to avert internal rifts and guarantee a smooth flagbearer contest.
Isaac Yaw Boamah-Nyarko, Member of Parliament for Effia and a member of the party’s presidential election committee, disclosed on Asaase Radio’s The Forum that former party leaders and representatives of the National Peace Council will also take part in the ceremony.
“On Thursday, we are going to sign the peace pact. All the aspirants, together with our former presidents and the Peace Council, will sign a peace pact that commits them to the outcome of the election. The peace pact is to make it clear that whether you win or lose, you owe it to the party to pull everybody along,” he stated.
Boamah-Nyarko underscored that the initiative is designed to protect the party from factional disputes and potential security breaches that could derail the process. He confirmed that the Ghana Police Service will be in charge of security during the polls, cautioning that “no machismo, no bodyguardism will be entertained,” and stressing that any attempt to disrupt proceedings will be firmly addressed.
He further encouraged aspirants to concentrate on their policies and records of service rather than resorting to personal attacks, pointing out that post-election unity is crucial to bolster the NPP’s prospects against the governing NDC in 2028.
“This party has survived worse moments,” he remarked, highlighting that preserving solidarity will rebuild public trust and position the NPP for a comeback to power.
