The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has concluded a four-day nationwide anti-drug operation across the Eastern and Greater Accra regions, aimed at reinforcing national security and safeguarding public health during the Easter festivities.

Acting on intelligence, NACOC officers targeted organised trafficking networks that often exploit holiday periods to expand illicit activities. Strategic stop-and-search exercises were conducted at major transit hubs in Koforidua, Osino, Nkawkaw, and Kwahu-Mpraeso, while foot patrols in busy markets and transport terminals were supported by trained K-9 units.

The operation disrupted suspected trafficking routes, intercepted illicit substances, and sent a strong warning to criminal networks. In Greater Accra, enforcement actions intensified with a major raid in Ashiaman, leading to the arrest of two suspected ringleaders of a cartel believed to be central to narcotics distribution in the capital.

Further raids in Circle, Avenor, and Labadi uncovered cannabis, hashish, hashish oil, and cannabis-infused products such as drinks and toffees, which NACOC warned are increasingly targeted at young people. Officers also maintained patrols along recreational zones including Labadi and Laboma beaches to deter open drug use and ensure a safe environment for holidaymakers.

NACOC expressed concern about evolving drug packaging designed to appeal to unsuspecting consumers, calling it a serious public health threat. The Commission emphasised that public cooperation is vital, urging citizens and community leaders to volunteer credible information on suspected traffickers.
Throughout the operation, officers were commended for professionalism and respect for human rights. NACOC said the success of the exercise underscores its commitment to protecting national security and public health, and pledged to extend such operations beyond Easter as part of a nationwide zero-tolerance stance against drug-related crimes.
