Members of Parliament have engaged in a spirited debate on the government’s flagship 24‑Hour Economy and the Accelerated Export Development Programme, underscoring its potential to transform Ghana into a productive, export‑oriented industrial economy.
Presenting the joint Committee Report, Chairman of the Committee on Economy and Development, Hon. Eric Afful, explained that the programme adopts an integrated value chain approach, linking agriculture, manufacturing, logistics, financing, and skills development. He described it as a viable pathway for boosting productivity and positioning Ghana competitively in global markets.
Hon. Afful emphasized that effective implementation of the programme could enhance domestic production, improve foreign exchange earnings, reduce trade imbalances, and generate sustainable employment, particularly for the youth. He noted that the initiative aims to reduce dependence on imports, expand domestic manufacturing, strengthen agricultural value chains, and mobilize affordable financing for productive sectors.
Lawmakers highlighted the programme’s potential to stimulate industrial growth and create jobs, while cautioning that its success would depend on strong institutional coordination, adequate funding, and consistent policy support.
The debate reflects Parliament’s growing focus on strategies to accelerate Ghana’s economic transformation, with the 24‑Hour Economy and export‑driven agenda seen as central pillars for achieving long‑term resilience and prosperity.
