The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has firmly dismissed reports circulating online that Ghana’s Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) is set to extend its services to the diaspora in countries such as the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, The Netherlands, and Germany.
In a press release issued yesterday, the Ministry clarified that it has not authorized any directive for DVLA staff to travel abroad to register or renew driving licenses for Ghanaians living overseas. It emphasized that no new government policy has been introduced to support such an arrangement.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs wishes to state categorically that it has neither issued a directive to our diplomatic missions abroad nor granted approval to any entity for such an arrangement,” the statement read. Officials further noted that there is no record of any formal engagement, policy proposal, or financial commitment tied to the purported initiative.
The Ministry assured the public of its commitment to transparency and financial prudence in service delivery, urging citizens to disregard the misleading reports. The clarification comes amid growing concern among Ghanaians at home and abroad who had taken the viral headline as confirmation of a new policy.
The Ministry concluded by reaffirming its dedication to accurate communication and accountability, calling on media houses and the public to verify information through official channels before sharing.
