Ghana and Austria Hold Second Political Consultations in Accra

 The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Ghana has hosted the Second Session of the Ghana-Austria Political Consultations, bringing together senior officials from both countries to review bilateral cooperation and explore new areas of engagement.

The meeting, held on Thursday in Accra, provided a platform for discussions on political relations, trade, investment, tourism, security, labour mobility, and health. Both sides also exchanged views on regional and global developments.

Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, Honourable James Gyakye Quayson, reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to strengthening ties with Austria. He highlighted Austria’s support for infrastructure projects in Ghana, including highways and water systems, and welcomed the establishment of the Austrian Cultural Forum in Accra as a hub for artistic, academic, and intercultural exchange. He expressed confidence that the consultations would consolidate frameworks for cooperation while addressing broader international issues.

Representing Austria, His Excellency Josef Franz Schellhorn, State Secretary of the Federal Ministry for European and International Affairs, emphasized Austria’s dedication to practical, technical, and institutional collaboration. He noted Austria’s contributions to United Nations peacekeeping and cooperation with Ghanaian security institutions. Schellhorn also pointed to opportunities for economic cooperation in renewable energy, infrastructure, waste management, and green technologies, while underlining the importance of cultural initiatives in fostering mutual understanding.

Ambassador Harold Adlai Agyeman, Acting Coordinating Director for Political and Economic Affairs, described the session as a milestone in the six-decade-long relations between Ghana and Austria. He stressed that the consultations provide a structured platform for reviewing cooperation and aligning positions on bilateral and global issues.

Both delegations acknowledged the constructive dialogue and reaffirmed their commitment to further enhance relations, underscoring the shared aspirations of Ghana and Austria for sustainable development and international cooperation.
