Mahama Cuts Sod for New Airport Concourse Linking Terminals 2 and 3

President John Dramani Mahama has officially cut the sod for the construction of an interconnecting concourse between Terminals 2 and 3 at the Accra International Airport, marking the start of a major infrastructure expansion aimed at easing congestion and reinforcing Ghana’s position as a leading aviation hub in West Africa.

Speaking at the ceremony, President Mahama emphasized that the project is more than symbolic, describing it as a strategic investment in efficiency, passenger experience, and the country’s long-term economic future. He noted that passenger traffic has risen steadily from 1.8 million in 2022 to 2.5 million in 2025, reflecting Ghana’s growing connectivity and appeal as a travel destination.

While acknowledging this progress, the President pointed to rising operational pressures, particularly during peak hours, where congestion continues to affect key airport services. He stressed that urgent interventions were necessary to prevent further strain on efficiency and service delivery.

The new concourse, once completed, will feature modern passenger boarding bridges, upgraded waiting areas, VIP lounges, retail outlets, and improved service infrastructure. The facility is designed to enable seamless movement between terminals and enhance overall airport operations, positioning Kotoka International Airport as a more competitive gateway for regional and international travel.
