Prez. Mahama Breaks Ground for 24-Hour Market at Dormaa Ahenkro

President John Dramani Mahama has officially broken ground for the construction of a 24-hour economy model market in Dormaa Ahenkro, marking a major step in his administration’s drive to expand economic opportunities across Ghana.

The President announced that all 261 districts nationwide will benefit from the initiative, with each market designed to include modern facilities such as banking services, cold storage units, daycare centres, police and fire posts, clinics, and other essential amenities. He explained that the project is part of his broader vision to stimulate commerce, support local traders, and create jobs through round-the-clock economic activity.

During his visit, President Mahama also inspected progress on key road infrastructure projects, including the Jinijini–Sampa Road and the Sunyani Outer Ring Road. He reiterated the importance of quality road networks in boosting trade and regional development.

On the economy, the President highlighted significant improvements in macroeconomic stability. He noted that inflation had declined sharply from 23.4 percent to 3.3 percent, while the Ghana cedi had strengthened from between GH¢16–GH¢17 to about GH¢10.70 against the US dollar. He stressed that sustaining these gains is critical to shielding the economy from future external shocks.

President Mahama’s remarks underscored his administration’s focus on combining infrastructure development with economic reforms to drive growth and improve livelihoods nationwide.
