The Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park (KNMP) has commended the Government of Ghana, led by President John Dramani Mahama, for its decision to rename Kotoka International Airport as Accra International Airport.
In a press release issued yesterday, the Park described the move as a “principled act grounded in the supreme interest of the Republic,” noting that Ghana’s foremost international gateway should reflect the nation’s values of truth, justice, and patriotism.
The statement emphasized that reverting to the name Accra International Airport corrects what it called “an anomaly that had endured for far too long.” Management of the Park urged Parliament to expedite the necessary legislative processes to give full legal effect to the change.
Dr. Collins Rawlings Nunyonameh, Acting Executive Director of the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park, signed the release, stressing that the renaming is not only symbolic but also a reaffirmation of Ghana’s collective identity.
The announcement has sparked widespread public interest, with many observers noting the historical and cultural significance of the decision. Parliament is expected to debate the matter in the coming days.
