Kumasi Central Prison Hosts Maiden Inmates Fashion Show

The Kumasi Central Prison has held its first-ever inmates fashion show, turning the prison yard into a vibrant runway that showcased creativity, skill and resilience.

The colourful event saw inmates confidently model a variety of outfits ranging from traditional kente, batik and tie-dye designs to smocks, as well as contemporary casual and formal wear. The lively atmosphere transformed the facility into a fashion arena, drawing admiration from invited guests and prison officials.

Most of the garments were designed and sewn by the inmates themselves, reflecting the impact of ongoing vocational training programmes aimed at equipping prisoners with practical skills for reintegration into society.

Prison authorities described the initiative as a milestone in rehabilitation efforts, noting that such programmes not only nurture talent but also instill discipline, confidence and hope among inmates.

The maiden fashion show is expected to become an annual feature, highlighting the role of creative arts in correctional rehabilitation and offering inmates a platform to demonstrate their potential beyond confinement.
