The Minister for the Interior, Hon. Muntaka Mubarak, has held a high-level meeting with the Greater Accra Regional and District Police Commanders, alongside the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs, to address escalating chieftaincy disputes and security concerns linked to the Homowo festival.

The meeting, convened at the Ministry of the Interior, sought to strengthen coordination between security agencies and traditional authorities in safeguarding peace and stability in the region.
Hon. Mubarak charged the police leadership to adopt a zero-tolerance stance on crime, stressing that “crime must be treated as crime.” He urged commanders to remain firm and resolute in preventing the recurrence of disturbances tied to chieftaincy disagreements and Homowo celebrations.
He further underscored the need for swift prosecution of offenders to serve as a deterrent, stating that “the right things must be done, and all related matters must face prosecution to uphold justice.”
The Minister also called for deeper collaboration between the Ghana Police Service and the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs, encouraging both institutions to work closely in tackling the root causes of disputes and ensuring lasting peace.
Registrar of the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs, Mr. Enoch Addo, expressed appreciation for the engagement and reaffirmed the House’s commitment to resolving the region’s challenges. He pledged continued cooperation with the police to promote peace and stability, while supporting all efforts to address chieftaincy and Homowo-related issues.
The meeting comes amid heightened tensions in parts of the Greater Accra Region, where disputes over traditional authority and festival-related disturbances have posed threats to public order.
