Armed men dressed in police uniforms and claiming to be National Security operatives stormed the Kwahu Paramount Chief’s palace at Abene in the early hours of Monday, November 17, 2025.
The raid, which occurred around 4 a.m., involved gunfire inside the palace, throwing residents into panic.
During the attack, the assailants abducted the Kwahuhemaa, Nana Adwoa Gyemfua, and seized the Kwahuhene’s official Toyota Land Cruiser. Tracking data shows the vehicle is headed toward Accra. The motive behind the assault and abduction remains unclear.
Both the Nkawkaw and Kwahu Divisional Police Commands have denied any involvement, stressing that no official team was deployed under the guise of National Security. Sources indicate the incident has intensified fears in the community, already unsettled by ongoing chieftaincy disputes in Kwahu.
Residents described the attack as deeply troubling, voicing concerns over the safety of traditional leaders. Authorities have launched investigations, though no official statement has yet been issued. Security analysts and community leaders are urging swift action to secure the Queenmother’s release and restore public confidence in law enforcement and the protection of traditional institutions.
The abduction has sparked widespread outrage on social media and among civil society groups, who are demanding immediate government updates and stronger safeguards against similar incidents. The attack underscores persistent security challenges and the dangers posed by criminals disguising themselves in official uniforms.
