Government Orders Probe, Condemns Attack on JoyNews Journalist During McDan-linked Demolition

The government has expressed strong disapproval of the reported manhandling of a JoyNews journalist and the alleged abuse of a civilian by a military officer during a demolition operation at a warehouse reportedly connected to businessman Daniel McKorley, popularly known as McDan.

In an official statement released on Wednesday, July 30, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the Presidential Spokesperson and Minister for Government Communications, labeled the conduct of the soldier as “completely intolerable.”

He reiterated the Mahama administration’s steadfast support for press freedom and the protection of media personnel

“I am directed by President John Dramani Mahama to unequivocally reaffirm his unwavering commitment to the freedom and safety of journalists,” the statement noted.

“A free and unfettered press is a cornerstone of our democracy, essential for accountability, transparency, and informed public discourse.”

The government further underscored its obligation to uphold the rights of every Ghanaian citizen and pledged prompt and decisive measures in reaction to the episode.
