The Minister for Health, Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has inspected a consignment of 24,534 medical equipment earmarked for distribution across the country in preparation for the rollout of the government’s free primary healthcare initiative.
The equipment, procured by government, is expected to strengthen service delivery and improve access to essential healthcare nationwide. Items include baby incubators, radiant warmers, oxygen concentrators, X-ray machines, vital sign monitors, glucometers, patient monitors, infusion devices, laboratory analysers, delivery beds, hospital beds, and ultrasound machines.
Speaking during the inspection, Hon. Akandoh emphasized that the distribution exercise is aimed at retooling government hospitals and enhancing their capacity to deliver quality care. He noted that the initiative reflects government’s commitment to building a resilient healthcare system that prioritizes preventive care and early treatment.
“This intervention is a clear demonstration of our dedication to ensuring that primary healthcare services are readily available and accessible to all Ghanaians,” the Minister stated.
The rollout of the equipment is anticipated to significantly boost efficiency at the primary level, paving the way for the successful implementation of the free primary healthcare policy. Health experts believe the initiative will help bridge gaps in service delivery, particularly in underserved communities, and contribute to improved health outcomes nationwide.
