Government Begins Vetting Process for Historic Diaspora Citizenship

The Ministry of the Interior, in partnership with the Diaspora Affairs Office at the Office of the President, has announced the commencement of vetting for applicants seeking Ghanaian citizenship under the “Historic Diaspora Community” initiative.

The vetting exercise will begin on February 11, 2026, at the Dubois Centre in Cantonments, Accra, with applicants scheduled in batches to ensure orderliness. The Ministry has cautioned applicants to await official notification of their vetting dates before visiting the centre, in order to prevent overcrowding.

Officials acknowledge that the overwhelming number of applicants, coupled with the limited time available before the ceremonial swearing-in slated for March 5, 2026, means not all interested persons will be able to participate in this initial process.

Despite this, the Ministry has assured the public that the citizenship process remains open through its online portal, https://e-services.mint.gov.gh, and emphasized that no qualified applicant will be disadvantaged.

The initiative forms part of government’s broader diaspora affairs programme, aimed at strengthening ties with communities of African descent and granting citizenship to those who meet the requirements.

For further clarification, applicants may contact the Ministry via e-services@mint.gov.gh or reach the Migration Unit and Public Affairs and Communications Unit at 0303 956 713.
