Ghana, World Bank Chart Path for Jobs and Growth

Ghana’s Finance Minister, Cassiel Ato Forson, has held high-level talks with Mr. Paschal Donohoe, Managing Director and Chief Knowledge Officer of the World Bank, on the country’s economic transformation and future development agenda.

The Minister noted that 2025 was dedicated to resetting the economy and placing it firmly on a path to sustainability. He emphasized that one of Ghana’s most pressing challenges today is unemployment, particularly among the youth. With Africa’s rapidly growing youthful population, he stressed that public sector employment alone cannot absorb the demand for jobs.

“We are therefore putting in place major policies and programmes to sustainably create jobs,” Mr. Forson said, outlining government initiatives aimed at expanding opportunities for young people.

Mr. Donohoe congratulated Ghana on what he described as “remarkable improvement” in national finances. He reaffirmed the World Bank’s commitment to supporting Ghana’s economic agenda, including through a Jobs and Growth Analysis designed to identify new opportunities for job creation.

The Finance Minister welcomed the continued partnership, saying it would be vital as Ghana works to create jobs, expand opportunities, and secure a more prosperous future for its citizens.
