Ghana Rolls Out 2,500 Scholarships in Landmark Educational Diplomacy Drive

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration has unveiled a major scholarship initiative aimed at deepening regional integration and expanding academic opportunities for both Ghanaian and West African students.

As part of activities marking the 50th anniversary of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), the Ministry will facilitate 1,000 scholarships for students from ECOWAS member states to pursue studies in Ghana. The programme is designed to strengthen regional solidarity and position Ghana as a leading hub for academic cooperation within West Africa.

Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa also announced that 1,500 scholarships have been secured for Ghanaian students from 15 partner countries. In a bid to ensure transparency, the full list of beneficiaries will be published on the Ministry’s website from October 1.

“This is about building bridges across our region and ensuring that education becomes a shared tool for progress,” the Minister said, adding that the awards will focus on disciplines critical to national and regional development.

In a further boost to student welfare, the Ministry has established help desks in 11 Ghanaian diplomatic missions to assist citizens abroad with immigration matters, emergency support, and other student-related services.

The initiative is expected to not only enhance Ghana’s role in regional educational diplomacy but also foster stronger people-to-people ties across West Africa.
