Behind every life saved is a team, and every team needs its anchors. While clinicians and nurses fight on the frontlines, specialist pharmacists quietly hold the key to safe and effective treatment. Recognizing their vital role, the Ghana Medical Trust Fund has announced plans to train 100 specialist pharmacists across the country over the next three years.

The initiative is aimed at strengthening Ghana’s fight against non-communicable diseases by equipping pharmacists to work alongside clinicians and nurses in delivering integrated care.

Led by Administrator Adjoa Obuobia Opoku-Darko, the Trust Fund paid a visit to the Ghana College of Pharmacists to begin discussions on the programme. The Rector of the College, Dr. Yvonne Yirenkyiwaa Esseku, and her team warmly welcomed the delegation and pledged to collaborate closely to make the vision a reality.
For Ghanaians living with chronic illnesses, medication represents more than treatment—it is stability, hope, and the chance to live fully again. By building a strong, coordinated care team, the Trust Fund seeks to fortify every link in the chain of healthcare delivery, ensuring a system that responds, protects, and saves lives.
“At the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, we care—and truly, Mahama cares,” the statement concluded.
