The Government of Ghana has reaffirmed its commitment to securing justice for Nana Agyei Ahyia, a Ghanaian student who died under unusual circumstances while studying in Latvia.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, officials disclosed that a high-level delegation led by the Honourable Foreign Minister traveled to Latvia to engage directly with Latvian authorities. The delegation included the deceased’s family, forensic experts, a pathologist, lawyers, and officials from Ghana’s Embassy in Berlin.
Latvian authorities, including the country’s Foreign Minister and Interior Minister, participated in the deliberations. The Ministry confirmed that investigations are now under the supervision of Latvia’s Interior Ministry, with the mother of the deceased having submitted a formal statement. Additional submissions from the family and legal representatives are being welcomed.
The Ghanaian government has formally requested that the final investigative report be made available to the bereaved family. Officials assured that they will continue to engage Latvian counterparts to ensure transparency and accountability throughout the process.
“The Government of Ghana remains absolutely committed to safeguarding the welfare and rights of all Ghanaians at home and abroad,” the Ministry emphasized, urging the public and media to avoid speculation that could undermine ongoing investigations.
Regular updates will be provided to the family and the public as the case progresses.
