On the instructions of President John Dramani Mahama, Ghana has made an additional donation of relief and reconstruction items to the Government of Jamaica as the Caribbean nation continues to rebuild following the devastation caused by Hurricane Melissa.

The consignment includes construction equipment, air-conditioned tents, boats, outboard motors, medical supplies, water purifiers, as well as plumbing and electrical tools. The donation was formally received in Kingston by Jamaica’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Senator the Honourable Kamina Abena Johnson Smith, JP, on behalf of her government.

In a further show of solidarity, President Mahama has approved the request by the Jamaican authorities for an extension of “Operation Boafo” from 30 days to 90 days. The initiative, spearheaded by Ghana, has been instrumental in providing technical and humanitarian assistance to the people of Jamaica in the aftermath of the hurricane.

Speaking on the gesture, officials underscored that Ghana’s foreign policy would no longer be defined by how much the nation can take from others, but rather by how much it can share with friends in distress.
The latest donation reaffirms Ghana’s commitment to international cooperation and solidarity, particularly with nations facing emergencies and disasters.
