Ghana and South Korea have signed a landmark Visa Waiver Agreement covering holders of Diplomatic and Service Passports, marking the first such accord between the two nations in nearly five decades of formal bilateral relations.

The agreement was signed today by Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, and his South Korean counterpart, H.E. Cho Hyun, on the sidelines of the ongoing Africa–Korea Foreign Ministers Meeting.

Negotiations are expected to continue with the aim of extending the waiver to holders of Ordinary Passports, further broadening travel opportunities between the two countries.
Hon. Ablakwa described the development as a major milestone, noting: “I am delighted we are delivering on key priorities following the working visit of President Mahama to South Korea in March this year.”
The accord is anticipated to strengthen diplomatic ties, facilitate official exchanges, and pave the way for deeper cooperation across multiple sectors.
