During the high-level meeting, Prime Minister Holness expressed heartfelt gratitude to former President John Dramani Mahama and the people of Ghana for their generous assistance and solidarity in the aftermath of Hurricane Melissa. “Jamaica will never forget the kindness of Ghana,” the Prime Minister affirmed.
The discussions covered a wide range of strategic partnerships, including:
- Labour Exchange Agreement – Ghana will send teachers and nurses to Jamaica this year to support the country’s education and health sectors.
- Defence Cooperation – Both nations agreed to initiate a Ghana-Jamaica Defence Cooperation Agreement to strengthen security collaboration.
- Business Opportunities – Ghanaian companies are set to explore investment prospects as Jamaica embarks on a massive infrastructural revamp under Prime Minister Holness’s bold vision of “building back better.”
In addition, Prime Minister Holness pledged Jamaica’s full support for President Mahama’s UN resolution seeking to declare the transatlantic slave trade the greatest crime against humanity and to demand reparations.
Foreign Affairs Minister Ablakwa conveyed Ghana’s appreciation for the Prime Minister’s exceptional hospitality and noted that Ghana looks forward to hosting him soon, given his strong desire to visit the motherland.
This renewed partnership underscores the deepening bonds between Ghana and Jamaica, rooted in shared history, solidarity, and a commitment to advancing mutual development.
