The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection has rolled out emergency cash assistance to vulnerable households in Obogu, Ashanti Region, as part of efforts to expand the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) programme and respond swiftly to urgent social needs.
The intervention follows a recent visit by the sector Minister, Hon. Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, during which significant vulnerabilities among households were identified. Acting on those concerns, the Ministry, through the LEAP Management Secretariat and the Social Protection Directorate, partnered with the Asante Akim Municipal Assembly to validate household data using the Ghana Household Registry.
The validation exercise confirmed 134 households as poor, with vulnerabilities including persons with disabilities, orphans and vulnerable children, and elderly persons without support.
On Thursday, February 26, 2026, emergency cash transfers were disbursed to the affected households in line with LEAP standards. The Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Maame Sarfoah Appiah, represented the Minister to oversee a transparent distribution process. Officials from the LEAP Management Secretariat and the Ministry were also present to monitor compliance with established procedures.
The Ministry noted that the support is intended to cushion beneficiaries against immediate hardship while reinforcing their resilience through sustained social protection measures.
