The Minister for Gender, Children, and Social Protection, Hon. Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, has held a series of engagements with Ghanaian participants and civil society organizations (CSOs) on the sidelines of the ongoing 70th Session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW70).
The interactions, aimed at deepening conversations on Ghana’s gender initiatives, brought together youth groups, women, men, and advocates from Ghana and the diaspora. The Minister emphasized the importance of collaboration in advancing gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls, while also strengthening global partnerships.
Dr. Lartey began with a meeting involving young women from local and international advocacy groups, where discussions focused on pressing issues such as body shaming, online sexualisation, digital violence, and justice mechanisms for victims of gender-based violence. She outlined key policy interventions being implemented by the Ministry to protect women and girls, stressing the government’s commitment to inclusive development.
Subsequently, the Minister engaged more than 100 Ghanaian participants attending CSW70, including representatives from academia, unions, and CSOs. She explained that the meeting was designed to create a network of Ghanaian stakeholders who could continue collaborating with the Ministry beyond the conference. Participants commended her leadership, describing the initiative as a strategic and inclusive platform for strengthened collaboration.
Reiterating government’s commitment under President John Dramani Mahama’s Rest Agenda, Dr. Lartey assured that Ghana’s participation in international platforms would translate into meaningful outcomes for women and girls. She encouraged participants to actively contribute to the conference proceedings and serve as ambassadors for Ghana’s gender agenda.
The Minister is expected to continue engaging stakeholders throughout CSW70 as part of her broader initiative to deepen partnerships and advance gender equality and women’s empowerment.
