Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has hosted the Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, H.E. Tong Defa, on a farewell visit, commending him for his role in advancing Ghana-China relations.

Hon. Ablakwa expressed profound pride in the achievements recorded during Ambassador Tong Defa’s tenure, noting that the partnership yielded significant benefits for Ghana. Among these were the securing of a $30 million grant for the construction of a modern Aflao Market and another $30 million grant to establish a Science and Technology University in Damongo.
He further highlighted expedited efforts toward Ghana’s membership of the International Organization for Mediation (IOMed), which has received cabinet approval and is expected to be ratified by Parliament. Other milestones included successful bilateral negotiations for a zero percent tariff regime with China, a significant increase in scholarships, enhanced trade, and deepened multi-sectoral cooperation.
The Foreign Minister also underscored genuine collaboration in confronting the “galamsey” menace, citing new visa controls and public education initiatives in China, as well as the implementation of Constituency Smart School Projects.
Hon. Ablakwa praised Ambassador Tong Defa as a “true friend of Ghana” and wished him the very best in his future endeavours.
