Foreign Affairs Minister Issues Stern Warning Over Purported Attempt to Establish ‘Igbo Kingdom’ in Ghana

Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has issued a strong warning to Nigerian national Chukwudi Jude Ihenetu, following viral reports of his alleged intention to establish an “Igbo Kingdom” within Ghana.

In a diplomatic engagement held in Accra, the minister reminded Mr. Ihenetu, and all foreign nationals, that while Ghana remains a proudly Pan-African nation with a longstanding tradition of hospitality, it expects guests to fully respect its laws, cultural values, and social harmony.

This response follows the circulation of a widely viewed video in which Ihenetu claimed plans to acquire land for the creation of the so-called kingdom. However, in his meeting with the minister, Ihenetu clarified that he had long abandoned that idea and confirmed he had not purchased any land for such a purpose.

He also rendered a formal apology to the President, Government, Traditional Authorities, and the people of Ghana for the disturbance caused by what the minister described as an ill-advised and regrettable past interview.

The minister reiterated Ghana’s commitment to unity and peace, underscoring the importance of upholding national sovereignty and avoiding any conduct that could threaten public order or stir division.

He concluded by urging calm and restraint from both Ghanaian and Nigerian communities and encouraged both nations to continue nurturing the longstanding bonds of friendship and brotherhood that exist between the two countries
