In a major move aimed at strengthening Ghana’s energy sector, the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition has announced a strategic boost to the country’s natural gas supply, courtesy of energy giant ENI.
Starting Sunday, July 13, 2025, ENI will scale up its supply of natural gas by 30 million standard cubic feet per day, raising the total to a robust 270 MMscfd. This increment is expected to support critical national infrastructure and sustain reliable electricity generation across Ghana.
To make this upgrade possible, ENI will temporarily halt gas exports—a calculated decision the Ministry says is necessary to optimize internal supply channels. However, this may affect the availability of gas for power generation in the interim.
In anticipation, the Ministry has partnered with power sector stakeholders to roll out mitigation measures, including tighter monitoring of power systems and contingency protocols to minimize any potential disruption to households and businesses.
“We are confident these proactive steps will keep the lights on while we navigate this brief transition,” assured the Ministry’s Spokesperson and Head of Communication, Richmond Rockson, Esq.
The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to delivering energy security and sustainability for all Ghanaians and called on citizens and stakeholders to support this transformative initiative.
