Ellembelle MP Calls for Renewed Commitment to Nkrumah’s Vision on 60th Anniversary of His Overthrow

The Member of Parliament for Ellembelle, Hon. Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, has called on legislators and citizens alike to use the 60th anniversary of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah’s overthrow as a turning point to recommit to the late leader’s vision of self-reliance, Pan-African unity, and industrial transformation.

Delivering a statement on the floor of Parliament, Hon. Buah described Nkrumah’s “crime” as his bold vision for a United States of Africa capable of controlling its own resources and challenging neo-colonial influence. He noted that upon returning from studies in the United States and Britain in 1947, Nkrumah energized the politics of the Gold Coast and went on to found the Convention People’s Party (CPP), a mass movement that mobilized elites, ordinary citizens, market women, workers, and youth.

Hon. Buah emphasized that Nkrumah’s legacy remains relevant today, urging leaders to draw inspiration from his ideals to drive Ghana’s development and strengthen continental unity.

Members of Parliament from both sides of the House also contributed to the statement, reflecting on Nkrumah’s enduring impact on Ghana and Africa.
