A staff member of the Electoral Commission (EC), Joseph Blankson Adumadzie, has formally petitioned President John Dramani Mahama to initiate proceedings for the removal of EC Chairperson Jean Mensa and her two deputies, Dr Bossman Eric Asare and Samuel Tettey.
Mr Adumadzie, in a statement issued Monday, November 24, said the petition was filed under Article 146 of the 1992 Constitution, which provides the framework for removing heads of independent constitutional bodies.
Although he withheld full details in line with legal requirements, he revealed that the petition is anchored on 12 counts of alleged misconduct. These include claims of cronyism, abuse of office, and gross incompetence. He argued that the actions of the three officials have eroded public confidence in the Commission and pose a threat to the integrity and independence of Ghana’s electoral system.
Explaining his motivation, Mr Adumadzie said the petition seeks to protect the Constitution and uphold accountable governance. He emphasized the need to safeguard the dignity of the Electoral Commission, describing it as a cornerstone of credible democracy.
He further urged President Mahama to fulfill his constitutional duty by referring the matter to the Chief Justice, who is mandated under Article 146 to determine whether a prima facie case exists.
