Man Arrested After Viral Video Shows Him Giving Child a Cigarette

The Ghana Police Service has arrested a man captured in a widely circulated video allegedly giving a cigarette to a child—a development that has sparked public outrage over child safety and welfare.

According to a statement issued by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on November 22, 2025, the suspect, identified in the release as Samuel Obeng Acheampong, was picked up during an intelligence-led operation. Police say he admitted to the act during interrogation and revealed that the incident occurred approximately five years ago.

The statement further indicated that the suspect is currently in custody and assisting with ongoing investigations. He is expected to be brought before the court in the coming days.

The Police Service emphasized its commitment to protecting children from harm and used the occasion to caution the public against acts that endanger minors. The release reaffirmed that anyone found perpetrating such offences will be pursued and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
