Deputy Health Minister Tours Health Facilities in Tamale

As part of her working visit to the Northern Region, Deputy Minister for Health, Prof. Dr. Grace Ayensu-Danquah, toured several health facilities to assess infrastructure, equipment needs, and staffing gaps, reaffirming government’s commitment to improving healthcare delivery.

At the Tamale Central Hospital, she visited the Out-Patient Department (OPD), interacting with staff and patients to gain first-hand insight into service delivery challenges. She later inspected the Labour Ward and Children’s Ward to evaluate maternal and child health services, and toured land earmarked for a Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) project aimed at expanding healthcare infrastructure.

Dr. Ayensu-Danquah also visited the Tamale RCH Health Centre, engaging staff and patients while inspecting the laboratory, wards, Child Welfare Clinic, and Antenatal and Neonatal units. Health workers appealed for additional delivery beds and sets to enhance safe childbirth services and reduce maternal and neonatal risks.

Her tour continued at the Gbambaya CHPS Compound and the Tolon District Hospital, where she assessed ongoing operations and interacted with frontline health personnel. At each facility, discussions focused on infrastructure deficits, equipment shortages, and the need for critical staff to improve efficiency and quality of care.

The Deputy Minister emphasised that the visits formed part of broader efforts by the Ministry of Health to retool facilities, strengthen infrastructure, and ensure adequate staffing, particularly in underserved regions. She reiterated government’s commitment to addressing the concerns raised and improving healthcare outcomes, especially in maternal and child health.
