The Deputy Minister for Health, Prof. Dr Grace Ayensu-Danquah, has inaugurated and sworn in 28 advisory boards for Health Training Institutions across Ghana’s Middle Belt, underscoring government’s commitment to strengthening healthcare delivery through quality training.
Speaking at the ceremony in Kumasi, Prof. Ayensu-Danquah stressed that the Ministry of Health’s ability to deliver equitable and effective healthcare nationwide depends largely on the calibre of professionals produced by these institutions. She highlighted the need for strong governance, high standards, effective leadership, and long-term institutional development.
The Deputy Minister urged the newly sworn-in members to build robust and reputable institutions capable of producing skilled, compassionate, and professional health workers. “We must reset our mindset and institutional approaches to align with current realities in the health sector,” she said.
Outlining her expectations, Prof. Ayensu-Danquah called on the boards to:
- Uphold good governance through transparency, accountability, and prudent resource management.
- Champion quality by promoting academic excellence, maintaining high standards, and supporting continuous improvement in teaching, training, professional conduct, and student welfare.
- Remain guided by purpose, recognizing that their decisions directly affect students and the millions of Ghanaians who will rely on the care provided by graduates.
She further encouraged collaboration among stakeholders to advance the mandate of the institutions and contribute meaningfully to the development of Ghana’s healthcare system.
The inauguration marks a significant step in reinforcing the role of Health Training Institutions as the backbone of the country’s healthcare workforce, ensuring that future generations of health professionals are well-prepared to meet the evolving needs of the nation.
